Finding an electric SUV that seats more than five, charges quickly for weekend trips, and delivers luxury refinement is challenging. The all-new 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB answers that need - a compact electric SUV seating up to seven with 800-volt charging and up to 631 km of rated range.
For Quebec City drivers accessing Charlevoix, the Laurentians, and the Eastern Townships, range and charging speed are real considerations. The GLB addresses both with genuinely new hardware for 2027.
How Much Range Does the GLB Actually Offer?
The GLB 250+ with EQ Technology delivers up to 631 km of WLTP-rated range - the highest in the lineup. The GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology adds all-wheel drive and more power, offering up to 614 km. Both use the same 85 kWh battery pack.
For context, 631 km covers typical daily driving without nightly charging. Commuting within Quebec City and weekend errands means charging once or twice weekly at home rather than daily.
The difference comes down to drivetrain configuration. The 250+ uses a single motor producing 268 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. The 350 4MATIC uses dual motors for all-wheel drive, producing 349 hp and 380 lb-ft. The extra motor and AWD system add weight and draw more power, explaining the slightly lower range.

What Makes 800-Volt Charging Different?
The 2027 GLB is the first in the lineup to use 800-volt electric architecture. This allows charging at up to 320 kW at compatible DC fast chargers.
Practically, that means 260 km of range in 10 minutes at high-speed chargers. Driving from Quebec City to Montreal with a coffee stop adds enough range to finish the trip and explore the city before recharging.
The 800-volt system includes a DC converter for 400-volt fast chargers, which remain the majority of Quebec's public charging stations. The converter steps down voltage so you're not limited to only the newest networks.
For home charging, the GLB uses a 9.6 kW AC onboard charger. With a Level 2 home charger installed, you can fully charge overnight. Most Quebec EV owners charge at home for 80% or more of their needs, using public chargers only for longer trips or top-ups.
How Does the Seven-Seat Layout Actually Work?

The GLB is available as a five-seater or seven-seater. The optional third row comes with a sliding second-row bench that adjusts fore and aft to balance legroom and cargo space.
Using all seven seats requires sliding the second row forward to create third-row space. When not using the third row, it folds flat into the cargo floor while the second row slides back for more legroom. The second row also reclines for longer drives. The Easy-Entry function tilts and slides the second row forward for easier third-row access - essential when loading kids or gear regularly.
Cargo space is 540 litres in five-seat configuration and 480 litres in seven-seat configuration (with third row folded). With the second row folded, cargo space increases to 1,715 litres in five-seat models and 1,605 litres in seven-seat models. The GLB includes a 127-litre frunk - the largest in Mercedes' new electric lineup - enough for charging cables, a small cooler, or items you want separate from main cargo.
What's New for 2027?
The 2027 GLB is a complete redesign. The interior centres on the optional MBUX Superscreen extending across the entire dashboard. It runs Mercedes' new MB.OS operating system, supporting over-the-air updates, Google Maps navigation, and the MBUX Virtual Assistant powered by generative AI.
The standard panoramic roof uses heat-insulating laminated glass with infrared-reflecting coating, keeping the cabin cooler in summer and reducing climate control load to preserve range.
The redesigned climate control system heats the cabin twice as fast as the previous generation using half the energy. In cold weather, it prioritizes warming the upper body and hands first for faster comfort without preconditioning before departure.
The suspension uses adaptive damping with DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes, adjusting ride firmness based on road conditions and driving style. The TERRAIN drive program adjusts drivetrain, steering, and brakes for off-road or low-traction conditions.
What Driver Assistance Features Are Included?
The GLB includes MB.DRIVE advanced driver assistance systems as standard, featuring Distance Assist DISTRONIC - Mercedes' adaptive cruise control maintaining set following distance.
The system uses eight cameras, five radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors monitoring the vehicle's surroundings. Data is processed by a water-cooled supercomputer designed to support future features through over-the-air updates.
The GLB includes anchors for up to four child seats - more than most vehicles in this segment. For families carrying multiple car seats, the GLB's width and sliding second row simplify side-by-side installation.
How Does the GLB Compare to the Previous EQB?
The 2027 GLB replaces the EQB, Mercedes' first electric compact SUV. The new GLB is 48 mm longer, 27 mm wider, and sits on a wheelbase 60 mm longer than the EQB, translating directly into more interior space.
Front legroom increases by 7 mm, second-row legroom by up to 68 mm, and headroom by 35 mm in front and up to 64 mm in the second row. The GLB feels less cramped in the second row with more space for taller passengers.
The cargo area is slightly smaller in litres, but the frunk is significantly larger. The EQB lacked a frunk entirely, so the GLB's 127-litre frunk is a genuine addition rather than reallocated space.
The GLB Delivers on the Practical Side of Electric
The 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLB is built for buyers needing seven-seat flexibility, long-range confidence, and 800-volt charging speed. It's a compact SUV that doesn't compromise on space or technology for an electric drivetrain.
